Sports Mole previews Saturday’s League One clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Fleetwood Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wycombe Wanderers will want to bounce back from a midweek defeat when they welcome Fleetwood Town to Adams Park on Saturday.

The visitors, who are currently propping up the League One table, will be desperate to end their five-game losing run.

Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield will have to pick his players up from a disappointing defeat in Tuesday’s away clash with Wigan Athletic.

They looked destined to play out a goalless draw until Wigan’s Charlie Hughes found the net in the 20th minute of stoppage time to leave the Chairboys empty-handed.

Having won just one of their last 16 league matches (D8, L7), Wycombe are currently sitting in 17th place and just four points above the drop zone.

After falling to a narrow defeat at the DW Stadium in midweek, the Chairboys will now return to Adams Park, where they have avoided defeat in each of their last three home league matches (W1, D2).

Wycombe can also take confidence from the fact they have won four of their previous seven head-to-head meetings (D3), including a comfortable 4-1 victory in October’s clash at Highbury Stadium.

Meanwhile, Charlie Adam has been unable to spark an upturn in fortunes in his opening four matches as Fleetwood manager, which have all ended in defeat.

In their most recent outing, the Cod Army were edged out by leaders Portsmouth after Abu Kamara scored the game’s only goal in the 25th minute.

Fleetwood have now lost a total of five consecutive matches, while they have failed to win any of their last 11 league games since beating Exeter City on November 11.

As a result of their poor run of form, the Cod Army are 12 points adrift of safety with 19 games left to play this season.

If they are to prolong their 10-year stay in the third tier, Fleetwood need to put together a positive run of results, beginning with Saturday’s trip to Adams Park, where they will attempt to beat Wycombe for the first time since February 2020.

Team News

Wycombe can no longer call upon Tjay De Barr, who has returned to Gibraltar and his former club Lincoln Red Imps.

Midfielder Jasper Pattenden is closing in on a return to fitness, but it remains to be seen if he will be ready for Saturday’s contest.

After making his second debut on Tuesday, Chem Campbell could be presented with his first start since rejoining the club on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

As for the visitors, they are expected to be without the services of Junior Quitirna and Ryan Broom, who are both struggling with injury issues.

Callum Dolan may also miss out after the midfielder was forced off in the first half of the recent defeat to Portsmouth.

Promise Omochere could be given the chance to impress from the start after featuring as a substitute in Fleetwood’s last three matches.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Grimmer, Low, Tafazolli, Leahy; Wheeler, Potts; Campbell, Taylor, Sadlier; Vokes

Fleetwood Town possible starting lineup:
Lynch; Wiredu, Heneghan, Earl; Vela, Lawal, Dolan, Boyes; Omochere, Mayor, Stockley

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 Fleetwood Town

Wycombe may have found wins hard to come by in recent times, but Saturday’s contest represents a chance to claim three crucial points in their battle to remain in the third tier.

We think the hosts will do enough to get the better of their opponents, who will be low on confidence following five consecutive defeats.
