With the aim of developing women’s soccer in member countries and promoting competition between them, the inaugural edition of CONCACAF’s W Gold Cup is about to get underway, with 12 teams set to fight it out to be crowned the best team in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
Preliminary playoff round decides final participants
The action gets underway on Saturday 17 February, when three preliminary round playoff games will take place. Six nations will go head to head for the final three spots in the group stage of the tournament, which nine countries have already qualified for.
Guyana vs Dominican Republic, Haiti vs Puerto Rico and El Salvador vs Guatemala will be played back-to-back at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, with all three single-leg ties to be played to a finish.
When does the 2024 W Gold Cup final tournament start? When is the final?
The final W Gold Cup tournament begins on Tuesday 20 February, with the group stage running through to Thursday 29 February. The 12 participants will compete in three groups of four, with the top two teams from each group, plus the two best third-placed countries, progressing to the quarterfinals.
The last-eight ties will be played on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 March, with both semifinals taking place on Wednesday 6 March. Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California will host the two last-four ties, as well as the final on Sunday 10 March.

The United States Women’s National Team are currently the highest-ranked CONCACAF nation ahead of Canada, Costa RIca and Jamaica, with Mexico completing the top five.
The USWNT had a hugely disappointing 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, losing to Sweden in a penalty shootout in the round of 16, their worst ever performance at the tournament. They will, however, be firm favourites to win the first ever W Gold Cup, particularly on home soil.
