MotoGP’s summer break ends with the British Grand Prix for the second year in a row. For Moto2 rider Jack Dixon, it means a chance to make amends after a chaotic weekend at Silverstone in 2023.
Dixon entered the 2023 summer break fresh from his maiden Grand Prix win at Assen in the final race before the season was suspended. However, the weekend at Silverstone never got off the ground for the Briton, as he qualified 11th before crashing out of the race in a collision with Darren Binder that led to one of the most memorable post-race TV interviews of the year, for which Dixon later apologised.
“I’m looking forward to racing on home soil,” Dixon said ahead of the 2024 British Grand Prix. “I’m going into this week with a completely different mindset to 2023. A home Grand Prix is usually a stressful week, but I’m going to try and focus 100 per cent on what’s happening on the track and being able to complete a great weekend.”
Dixon’s CFMoto Aspar teammate Izan Guevara did not make the same impact he had in Moto2 as he did when he won the Moto3 world title in 2022. According to Guevara, his summer break was not a “break” at all. “During this three-week break, I did not stop training, there were no holidays,” said the #28.
Silverstone was the scene of Guevara’s stunning start to his first Moto3 campaign of 2021, fighting for a podium finish and eventually finishing fourth, his best result before winning the Grand Prix of the Americas two months later. “Silverstone is a track where I’ve always been good, even though I’ve never been able to get on the podium there,” said Guevara. “I’ll try to fight in the front group and be competitive.”
