After taking pole position at Thruxton, Kyle Ryde said he is aiming for his first podium at Thruxton this week.
Kyle Reid continued Yamaha’s dominance at Thruxton this week as he claimed pole position. Earlier in the week, Ryan Vickers and Danny Kent also led the sessions. However, they were unable to match Reid’s pace in qualifying.
After putting himself in the lead in the first race, Ryde spoke to Eurosport about how the session went:
“My first lap was a bit of a mess after Ryan (Vickers) passed me at the last corner,” Ryde told Shane Byrne. “You know how it is here, you finish one lap and you think you’re in trouble.
“Luckily this weekend we got SC0 and I think it would have been enough for four or five laps. I’m excited to get pole, 1:14.5 I don’t think I’ve ever been that fast! It’s a good start to the weekend and hopefully we can get our first podium at Thruxton.”

Bayern asked Ryde if he had a plan for the opening race as he would be starting from what Ryde described as the “perfect place”:
“It’s hard to say,” Ryde admitted. “We all have a lap time that we know we can achieve over 18 laps, but if you put someone in front of you who is driving half a second faster than you, it’s hard not to follow them. I’m in the perfect spot to let some people through and save the tyre until the end, but we’ll see how it goes.
“It’s impossible to make a plan in this area, the tyres get really hot and the grip levels drop. And as you’ve seen, the guy who’s won a lot of races here (Jason O’Halloran) will start next to me, so if he gets past me I’ll follow him.”
