Under a new deal between MotoGP rights holder Dorna and the Uttar Pradesh state government, the Indian Grand Prix will continue until 2027.

MotoGP will be held in India for the first time in 2023 in a race dominated by Italian Marco Bezzecchi. However, a number of reported financial circumstances have led to the cancellation of the 2024 edition and the 2025 race being rescheduled for March, compared to September in 2023.

The 2023 and 2024 races were promoted by Fairstreet Sports, which worked in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government and Dorna to deliver the event. Fairstreet’s contract with Dorna was for seven years and was supposed to keep the Indian MotoGP round on the calendar until 2029.

Starting in 2025, the new deal between Dorna and Uttar Pradesh means the government itself will promote the race, removing Verstreet from the equation, between 2025 and 2027.

“Bringing MotoGP to Uttar Pradesh not only elevates our state’s profile on the global sporting stage but also stimulates significant economic growth in tourism, hospitality and allied sectors. The event will attract visitors from across the world and highlight Uttar Pradesh’s prowess in hosting world-class sporting events,” said Mr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Chief Secretary and Commissioner, Infrastructure & Industrial Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, added: “We are very pleased to announce this new agreement directly with the Government of Uttar Pradesh. The inaugural Indian Grand Prix was a huge success and brought a huge amount of value to both MotoGP™ and our host region of Uttar Pradesh, so it is great that we can continue to build on this together in the future.

“India is a key market for MotoGP, with an established and stable racing audience that we know we can grow significantly. There are hundreds of millions of two-wheelers in use across the country every day, making it vital for our manufacturers and the sport itself thanks to MotoGP’s status as the pinnacle of two-wheeled racing.

“We are very proud to be working directly with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to bring MotoGP™ back to India, Uttar Pradesh and the Buddh International Circuit, for the next three seasons.”
