Kyle Ryde will start the first British Superbike race of the weekend from pole position, while the two Ducati riders find themselves at the bottom of the grid.
Danny Kent set the fastest lap on Friday at Thruxton, with the Yamaha rider setting the fastest lap. Kent went on to lead FP3, just before qualifying, but was unable to grab pole position.
Kent may not have won, but his Yamaha teammate Kyle Reid did take the top spot. His teammate stole the headlines last time out, but Reid will be looking to write some of his own.
Last year Jason O’Halloran won all three races at Thruxton on a Yamaha. However, he is now on a Kawasaki and clearly has not lost any of his speed. The Australian qualified second for the first race later today.
Billy McConnell completed the Australian race 2-3, and was also the best Honda rider in qualifying. McConnell looked strong all weekend and knows how to get the most out of a single lap around Thruxton.
It wasn’t an easy weekend for Ryan Vickers after winning all three races at Brands Hatch. The Yamaha rider had to get through the first qualifying session, but once he got through the second qualifying session, he showed his speed and qualified fourth.
Kent was unable to match his Yamaha teammate’s pace but set a decent lap time and will start fifth. Leon Haslam completed the second row having qualified sixth. Veteran BSP is also the best BMW rider after qualifying.
With the exception of McConnell, the following Honda riders finished seventh, eighth and ninth. Lee Jackson put his Mastermac Honda in seventh, with Honda Racing UK riders Tommy Bridewell and Andrew Irwin eighth and ninth.
The top ten is completed by Kawasaki’s young rider Max Cook. Having failed to make the podium at Thruxton last year, Cook will be aiming to make it this week.
Ducati riders Glenn Irwin and Christian Iddon, championship contenders, were in the second qualifying stage, but neither made any impact on the front-runners. Irwin will start from 14th with Iddon just behind him in 15th.
