Francesco Bagnaia’s British Grand Prix ended in third place after a crash in Saturday’s sprint race.
Before the summer break, Francesco Bagnat regained the MotoGP lead. However, after just one race back, the championship swung in Jorge Martin’s favour.
After finishing second in qualifying, Bagnaia looked set for another great weekend, but the Italian crashed out of the sprint on Saturday and had to settle for third in Sunday’s main Grand Prix.
“I tried to be honest, but after yesterday’s crash it would have been better to finish today,” said Bagnaia after finishing third at Silverstone. “I also took a risk today at Turn 7, where I lost the lead and Bagnaia was in good shape.” [Bastianini] He outdid me. “It would have been better if I could have closed the gap on the riders behind me and finished the race, third place is good but I want to check everything in the data to understand what I did wrong. I had the ability to fight for the win but I made some mistakes.”
It was Bagnaia’s team-mate, Enea Bastianini, who took the British Grand Prix win. That victory put the Italian into title contention, but Bagnaia believes Bastianini was always a title contender:
“He has always been in the fight, he just needs to be more consistent and I think the results can give him more motivation to always be at this level. I think he was faster on this track, but we will see in the future and I think the championship will be like this until the last race.”
