Frustration over team orders, disagreements within the team, conflicts over future rules, quarrels with sponsors, Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell (though he wasn’t in Formula 1 at the time) throwing grenades in the background, a British champion leading the British Grand Prix – and then something heartbreaking happens.
The 1993 Silverstone race may not be the first race that comes to mind when you think of Williams’ epic but often chaotic era in Formula 1, but it contained many of the themes that characterised this great but fraught team’s years at the top.
The new season of Bring Back V10s kicks off with Karun Chandhok, Edd Straw and Glenn Freeman exploring Damon Hill vs Alain Prost and all that background, plus everything from Rubens Barrichello being labelled a future world champion to the new (late) teams finalising their plans and Johnny Herbert announcing that Lotus has just turned its fortunes around.
