There is still a lot to play for before the final weekend of La Liga 2, as automatic promotion, playoff and relegation places will be decided next Sunday.

Who can promote to the Spanish League?

After a dramatic run in Week 41, Real Valladolid secured their immediate return to La Liga after two stoppage-time goals completed a memorable win over Villarreal B. The last automatic promotion place will go to either Leganes or Eibar. Valladolid know they can lift the La Liga title by equaling Leganes’ result as well.

Leganes is in a position that allows it to advance automatically, as it needs only one point at home against Elche to advance to the first division in Spain. If Leganes achieves a result, Eibar will have to settle for a play-off place. If Leganes loses to Elche, Eibar will advance to the first division with a home win against playoff hopefuls Real Oviedo.

A loss for Leganes and a win for Eibar would mean that both clubs would be level on 71 points, but Eibar have a better head-to-head record and would therefore be promoted. Borja Jiménez’s side are strong favorites for automatic promotion, however, they could still go up as champions, if they win their final game and already-promoted Real Valladolid fail to beat Tenerife.

Who will finish in the qualifying positions?

Joining Leganes or Eibar in the qualifiers will be Espanyol, which secured sixth place yesterday with a goalless draw with Amorebieta. However, the final two places are still to be decided, with Real Oviedo, Racing Santander and Sporting Gijon all hoping to compete in the qualifiers in June.

Oviedo enters Sunday in fifth place with 64 points, Racing occupies last place in the play-off with 64 points as well, while Gijón occupies seventh place with 62 points after an important victory over Eibar yesterday. If Gijon fails to beat Eldinese on the final day, Oviedo and Racing will play in the qualifiers.

However, if the Rojiblancos win, Racing will need to draw with already relegated Villarreal B to guarantee a place in the playoffs. This is where it gets interesting – Oviedo will need to beat third-placed Eibar away from home if Gijón wins and Santander draws or wins. Despite being the better-placed team heading into the final week, Oviedo could bow out of the playoffs, with Luis Carrón’s side looking to play their toughest match.

Who will be relegated to the third division?

Villarreal B, Andorra and Alcorcón were ruled relegated on Sunday after failing to win. Another team will be relegated and Amorebieta will head into the final weekend in the relegation zone while Mirandes sits just outside, one point behind the Basque side.

Surprisingly, the two teams will play each other on the final day in the highlight match on Sunday. The substitutions are simple – if Mirandes draws or wins, he will survive and Amorebieta will be relegated to the third division.

If Amorebieta wins against the home team, it will remain at the expense of Los Rogelos. Unlike the last weekend in La Liga, the final day of the 2023/24 La Liga is full of mouthwatering risks and promises to be unmissable.
