With Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool at the end of the season and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United future in doubt, a top Serie A manager has been challenged to take on the Premier League challenge.
Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri should contemplate managing at Liverpool or Manchester United in the Premier League, according to Giovanni Galeone, a confidant of the tactician.
The Bianconeri boss has been criticised recently for the club’s slide from possible Serie A contenders to battling AC Milan for second place after falling three points adrift of the Rossoneri over the weekend.
The Brighton & Hove Albion boss thinks the perceived notion that his approach is counter-cultural to Italian football means he is not seen as a winner like Jose Mourinho and Massimiliano Allegri.
Juventus played out a goalless game with Genoa at the Allianz Stadium, while Stefano Pioli’s men sealed a commendable 3-1 victory at Hellas Verona, frustrating supporters of the Old Lady who booed after Sunday’s scoreless game in which Dusan Vlahovic got his marching orders late on.
What Galeone said about Allegri’s future
Galeone, a former coach, wants Allegri to consider leaving Italy for Liverpool or Manchester United.
“Next summer will be a summer of great changes throughout Europe, I think Max would do very well at Liverpool post-Klopp or at Manchester United,” Galeone said. “He is in his eighth season with Juventus, and only Trapattoni has more appearances than him. I don’t see Max in Arabia, but he would be perfect for the Premier League.
“Until some time ago, I would’ve told him to stay. Now, however, I’d tell him that the time has come to seek success abroad as both Capello and Ancelotti did after so many successes in Italy. Allegri coached and won with Milan and Juventus.”
Could Allegri end up at Liverpool?
Jurgen Klopp confirmed in January that he would depart Liverpool at the end of the current season, with Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, and Thomas Frank linked to the Merseyside club as potential replacements.
Could Allegri replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United?
Rumours swirl about Ten Hag’s Manchester United future, despite the Red Devils still in contention for a Champions League berth and making it to the FA Cup semi-finals after a rip-roaring 4-3 win over Klopp’s Liverpool on Sunday.
Graham Potter and De Zerbi have also been rumoured as a replacement for the Dutchman if Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS Group seek a change in the summer.
What comes next for Allegri and Juventus?
Allegri always maintained all season that a Champions League return, and not Scudetto contention, was this season’s objective, a target Juventus are expected to attain despite picking seven points from an available 24 in the last eight games.
The Bianconeri travel to Stadio Olimpico to take on Lazio on March 30 in Serie A action after the international break.
