Jake Dixon out of Qatar Moto2 opener after heavy P2 crash at Lusail

Jake Dixon has been declared unfit for the opening round of the 2024 Moto2 World Championship after sustaining trauma in a crash during Practice 2 for the Qatar Moto2.

The British rider – who starts the season as one of the title favourites after ending the 2023 Moto2 season fourth overall – had been looking to book his place into Q2 directly during the morning’s dry P2 session.

However, a huge high-side as he rounded Turn 13 – one that flicked him over the handlebars before landing heavily and coming to rest several metres down the track – necessitated a visit to the medical centre before the decision was taken to transfer him to hospital.

Though a CT scan has revealed no fractures, medical staff have declared him unfit for the opening round in Lusail due to trauma sustained in the incident.

“Further examinations revealed no further fractures but Jake Dixon has been declared unfit for the Qatar Moto2 ue to the trauma sustained in his P2 crash,” read a statement from CFMoto Aspar.

The withdrawal represents a desperately disappointing start for Dixon in what has been tipped as the year he can fight for the title. The ex-BSB rider had been fourth in the dry FP1 session on Friday afternoon.
