Minnesota United are close to completing a deal to appoint Manchester United assistant coach Eric Ramsay as their new head coach, as reported by Tom Bogert of The Athletic.

The MLS club are planning to appoint a new boss before their MLS season opener against Austin FC after interim head coach Sean McAuley left the club to join Indy Eleven at the start of the year.

Ramsay, 32, has been approached over a move to Allianz Field, where he would become Major League Soccer’s second youngest-ever head coach.

Yoann Damet was FC Cincinnati’s interim manager in 2019 when he was 29 years old, while Roy Wegerle was 32 when he led the Colorado Rapids in 1996.

Welshman Ramsay previously managed Chelsea’s U-23s before moving to Old Trafford during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s spell in charge.

The highly-rated coach previously acted as an assistant coach for the Wales national team for six months alongside his role with United before leaving to focus solely on the Premier League club. Wales manager Rob Page described Ramsay as “one of the best young coaches in football”.
