Jurgen Klopp issues Mohamed Salah injury update

Liverpool are looking to bounce back from last Sunday’s defeat to Arsenal, which saw their lead at the top of the Premier League table cut to just two points. Manchester City play first this weekend, meaning that they could be in pole position by the time Liverpool kick off against Burnley.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp spoke to the press on Friday to outline his team’s ongoing injury struggles. Top of the agenda, understandably, was the fitness of Mohamed Salah.

“Right direction,” Klopp replied, when asked about the Egyptian’s recovery. “We hope, but we don’t know, we hope that he can be part of parts of training next week.

“But we have to see, he is going through all the phases now and it’s positive. It’s either next week or the week after.

When will Mohamed Salah be back for Liverpool?

Salah has not featured for Liverpool since suffering a hamstring injury while playing for Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations. He was forced to miss the remainder of Egypt’s short-lived stay at the tournament and returned to Liverpool last month to begin rehabilitation.

Initially Ramy Abbas, Salah’s agent, said that the forward was likely to miss three to four weeks of the season due to the injury.

The injury was sustained on January 18, meaning that Salah is still around a week away from the expected return. This weekend’s visit of Burnley has come too soon, but he could make the squad for the Reds’ trip to Brentford the following Saturday.
