Ferrari Ambassador Marc Gene has offered some insight on their 2024 challenger, after it was ran in the simulator.
The team is looking to turn around their fortunes, after failing to mount a challenge to Red Bull in the 2023 season. It switched car concepts midway through last year and plan to lean more towards their title rivals design this season.
According Gene, the car is producing a “very different” feeling already compared to the SF-23 which was plagued by poor reliability and aero problems.
“Optimism? All we can tell is what the simulator tells us and the sensations of the drivers in the simulator. The track, in any case, is the one that rules and is the final judge,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“But it is true that last year at this point we were no longer completely convinced with the car from what the simulator told us and this year the sensations are very different.
“But we still have to wait to see the car on the track, which will be on February 13 and then the pre-season test in Bahrain.”
Title fight on the cards?
Gene believes there is reason for optimism at the Scuderia, as they look to provide both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc with a car that can win races and challenge for titles.
“It’s difficult, because Red Bull had a very important margin last year and they say that this year’s car is much better. They are the favourites, obviously,” said Gene.
“Fighting with them for the World Championship is a bit optimistic to say, but to take one more step forward and be able to fight more assiduously with them, yes.”
Ferrari will unveil their 2024 challenger on February 13th a few days before the season kicks off with pre-season testing at Bahrain.
