Ahead of the MotoGP World Championship in Portugal, Danilo Petrucci discusses his plans for the 2025 season.

Danilo Petrucci joins the MotoGP World Championship in 2023 with the Barney Spark Racing team. Since joining the team, Petrucci has competed in 51 races with them and has finished on the podium five times.

The Italian’s contract expires at the end of the 2024 season and he has previously stated that he would like to take Alvaro Bautista’s seat if he retires, however, it now appears that Petrucci is aiming to stay with his current Barney Spark Racing team.

“I think everything will stay like this. For my part, I have to wait for Alvaro’s decision,” Petrucci told WorldSBK.com ahead of the MotoGP World Championship round in Portugal.

“I have almost the same bike, so I would like to continue with Barney, I think that will be the solution for the future. We have the potential to win races if we put everything together. I hope to announce my future soon.”

Petrucci is looking forward to this weekend driving around Portimao again. Last season, the 33-year-old struggled to cope with the ‘rollercoaster’, but he has more hope this season after winter testing earlier in the year.

“Portimao is a circuit that I like a lot. But last year I couldn’t get much speed, and in this winter test it was good. The new schedule for this race will definitely be different, and I think it will be a surprise. Because in the end it will be very hot and with these types of temperatures tyre control will be key for the race. There won’t be much grip because of the heat, but we will have to see our speed because in the previous rounds we were fighting for the top five and I want to continue like that.”
