BSB Thruxton, Race One Results

Kyle Ryde converted his pole position into a win in the opening race at Thruxton as he led the OMG Yamaha team to a first- and second-place finish.

Kyle Reid set the pace in qualifying as he took pole from Jason O’Halloran and Billy McConnell. Despite taking pole, Reid said his only goal was to get his first podium at Thruxton, but he continued to do better.

After a frantic final five laps around Thruxton, it was pole runner Ryde who took the win. Despite seven riders who could have realistically won before the final corner, Ryde played his cards right and claimed his first ever win at Thruxton.

His OMG GRILLA Yamaha team-mate Ryan Vickers was right behind Ryde. After taking three wins last time out at Brands Hatch, Vickers was in good form as he finished second in the opening race at Thruxton.

Many have described O’Halloran as “Mr. Thruxton”, and the Australian has added to his tally today. In the last 10 races at Thruxton, O’Halloran has stood on the podium 10 times.

Despite being a local racer, Tommy Bridewell’s quest for a podium finish at the BSB Thruxton race continues. Bridewell led for part of the race, but had to settle for fourth today.

McConnell started on the front row and stayed in the pack. Many expected McConnell to burn a tire, but he ended up finishing an impressive fifth.

Leon Haslam was the best driver in the first BMW race. Despite challenging for the lead in the early stages of the race, the ‘Pocket Rocket’ could only manage sixth place in the first race.

Former teammates Lee Jackson and Max Cook were in a battle for seventh place in the closing stages of the race, with Jackson’s Mastermac Honda rider eventually finishing seventh and Cook finishing eighth.

Christian Iddon qualified 15th but put in a great performance in the race. Ducati has not performed well at Thruxton since the switch to the V4 engine, but Iddon put in a brave effort as he fought for the lead. However, he dropped down the order late on and finished ninth.

For only the second time in the 2024 BSB season, Peter Hickman has finished in the top 10. The FHO Racing BMW team has struggled so far this season, but this was Hickman’s best weekend yet.

Championship contender Glenn Irwin struggled throughout the weekend and could only manage 14th place.
