North West 200 chief Mervyn White says he still feels ‘there’s a few wins yet’ in Alastair Seeley as time runs out to secure him a seat for the 2024 racing season.
The Ulsterman has found himself on the sidelines during the off-season after losing his road racing and Superstock 1000 seat at TAS Racing to Davey Todd over the winter.
The split, which came despite success on the 2023 NW200 and a run to third in the National Superstock Championship on the SYNETIQ/Milwaukee BMW, means Seeley is one of the highest-profile racers yet to source a ride for the new season.
It threatens to leave Seeley – whose 29 wins makes him the most successful racer to have ever competed on the NW200 – out of action when the event kicks off on 6-11 May, not to mention the British Superbike Championship in April.
As a result, Whyte says organisers for the NW200 are busily trying to source a ride for Seeley, who has previously commented might be prepared to retire if he doesn’t land a seat.
“I’ve been back and forth with Alastair but there’s nothing sorted as yet,” Whyte told the Newsletter.
“Hopefully he will get something because it would be a shame not to have the rider with the most wins around the North West.
“I’m working away behind the scenes on that and I wouldn’t give up yet.
“Alastair is special around the North West and I think there’s still a few wins in him yet.
“He’s still well up for it and I wouldn’t give up hope just yet. I’d like to think he’ll be on the grid for the North West.”
